Ceramic coating vs wax: which is worth it?
Wax and ceramic coating both protect your paint and make it shine. The difference is how long they last and how hard they work. Here’s the honest version.
Wax
A natural or synthetic wax gives a warm, deep shine and some protection against water and grime. It’s affordable and easy to top up, but it typically lasts weeks to a couple of months, especially through a wet North Devon winter.
Ceramic coating
A ceramic coating bonds to the paint to form a hard, long-lasting layer. It resists water, road salt, UV and light contamination far better, stays slick for years rather than weeks, and makes routine washing much easier.
Which should you choose?
- Choose wax if you want a cheap, quick lift in looks and don’t mind reapplying it regularly.
- Choose ceramic if you want years of protection with far less upkeep. It’s a strong choice near the coast, where salt air is hard on paint.
